What are the files in the DOORS "temp" folder for?

Windows is warning me that the small C: drive on my Windows server is nearly full, so I'm cleaning up unrequired files (the database folder is on a separate D: drive). I noticed that the following folder contains numerous files and folders, with several folders for each day since installation of DOORS, which take up 1/3 of my hard drive!

C:\Program Files\Telelogic\DOORS_8.2\temp

The folders are named (for example): LD_0a05596
The folder contains another folder named (for example): cache_36678@DOORSAPP_1245152022
and numerous files of the form: DDGETDATA10a05596

What is the purpose of these files and can I safely delete those that are older than say a month?

Thanks,
Ken.

I don't know.

I see these directories but have never seen any files (permantly) in them. I wonder if perhaps you lack 'D'elete rights to that temp folder.

Louie,

That isn't it; all permissions are set to "Allow". I guess I will have to ask IBM...

Thanks,
Ken.

These are cache files.
By default they are in <Doors install root>/temp (say C:\Program Files\Telelogic\Doors_8.0\temp)
You can delete them all provided no Doors client running.

You can tell him to create these cache file somewhere else with -localdata (-f) switch.
I use myself -Localdata "%TEMP%" and some time to time I purge them because Doors crash some times.

I have seen the DOORS cache files left behind after improper exits of DOORS client or when it crashes. During normal exits (File -> Exit), those files should be automatically removed.

Aha! This explains why we have so many old temp files. We access DOORS through Citrix and have configured Windows Terminal Services to force out users after half an hour of idle time (to maximise usage of those ridiculously expensive international DOORS licenses). Each time this occurs (several times a day) it will leave behind files in the temp folder. I guess this is an unfortunate side effect of the timeout.

Just deleting the files from 2008 has freed up 1GB on the hard drive.

Many thanks,
Ken.

You say that you are forcing users out using terminal services.
Does that mean you are crashing the doors client by killing the process each time?
If so, I don't like the sound of that. If this is happening a lot then you are asking for trouble.

I was thinking 'creating' instead of 'asking'. I wonder if you could get Terminal Services to end DOORS gracefully, sending it a DXL to save all open modules, close them, then exit DOORS.
